About
Michael Webb is an electric and upright bassist, arranger, composer, and educator based in New York City. Since arriving in New York ten years ago, Michael has had the opportunity to study and perform with a wide variety of New York’s greatest musicians including members Chris Potter, Alan Ferber, Tony Moreno, Mike Rodriguez, and Billy Drewes. Beyond the jazz world, Michael is equally comfortable in a wide variety of styles including Rock, Pop, and Singer-Songwriter as well as being an adept pit musician. As such, he has been seen performing at an eclectic collection of venues throughout the city and beyond including The Knitting Factory, The Bowery Electric, New World Stages, and 54 Below well as performing at famous Jazz venues like The Blue Note. He has also been seen with groups internationally across Costa Rica as well as in the Jazz Clubs of Paris.
Michael is also NYS Certified PreK-12 Music Teacher and currently serves as the Band Director of the Alice E. Grady Elementary School in the Elmsford Union Free School District. As a bassist, Michael has had the privilege of studying privately with Martin Wind, Mike Richmond, Matyas Szandí, and Pete Toigo. He holds a B.M. in Jazz Studies and an M.A. in Music Education from New York University and is currently a student in the Ed.M program in Music and Music Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. Michael is currently in the process of writing his debut album for Nonet - due out in 2025.
